What is OpenClaw?
OpenClaw is an open source AI assistant that runs on your own machine or server. It connects to everyday messaging apps and your tools, and keeps persistent memory in plain text files, such as SOUL.md for its personality and MEMORY.md for what it remembers.
Unlike a chatbot in a tab, it stays on, knows your context and acts on your tools when you ask.

How is it different from ChatGPT?
ChatGPT lives in a tab and only knows what you paste. OpenClaw lives in your messaging apps, stays on, knows your approved sources and remembers context from one day to the next.
What are SOUL.md and MEMORY.md?
Text files holding the assistant's personality and what it remembers. You can read and edit them, which keeps its behaviour transparent.
Are community skills safe?
Not all of them. A skill can run code and access your data. We only install skills reviewed line by line or written by us, with minimum permissions.
Who can talk to it?
Only the accounts you allow. Each channel is paired and limited to a list of people, so a stranger cannot give it orders.
